Yard Waste
How to dispose of yard waste:
Leaf Mulching
The best and most earth-friendly option for handling your leaves is mowing them with your lawn mower set to mulch. This method helps improve the nutrient and moisture levels of your lawn, contributing to a healthier and greener environment.
Composting: Yard Waste Collection Program
Help the environment one compost bag at a time! On your recycling collection days, place grass, leaves, branches, and tree limbs at the curb in paper compost bags or tied in bundles, and we will take them to the Robin Hood Bay Compost Facility.
This program is offered bi-annually in both the spring and fall during the following months:
- June
- November
Yard waste material eligible for collection includes:
- Grass clipping
- Leaves
- Branches and tree limbs
Guidelines
Yard waste collection begins on the first whole week of the respective month. For instance, if June 1 falls on a Thursday, the collection will begin on your scheduled curbside recycling day the following week. Please use the search engine feature below to find your collection schedule.
There is no limit to the number of paper yard waste bags that you can place at the curb for collection.
Yard waste in plastic bags will not be accepted, and can be placed in your garbage cart on your next scheduled regular garbage collection.
The weight limit for bags and bundles is 40 lbs.
Tree limbs/branches can be tied in bundles, no longer than 4 feet in length.
Bags that have become saturated due to rain will not be collected.
Benefits
There are many positive benefits to the program, including:
- Placing paper yard waste bags outside of the automated carts saves space within the carts for your actual garbage.
- It contributes to environmental preservation by diverting yard waste from landfills, thus extending their operational life.
- It also brings about financial savings by reducing the tipping fees charged by the Robin Hood Bay Waste Management Facility.
Your yard waste will be transported to the Robin Hood Bay Compost Facility. Additionally, you can also bring your paper yard waste bags to the Robin Hood Bay Residential Drop-Off year-round. For details on the hours of operation, please click here.
Compostable paper yard waste bags are available at most local hardware stores and building centers.
