The Town of Conception Bay South offers many programs, events, and informational resources for seniors (residents age 65+). This page is designed to act as a road map for residents to discover information that is directly relevant to seniors.

The Town of Conception Bay South has a Seniors Advisory Committee to provide insight and experience on matters involving seniors. The volunteer members of this committee play a valuable role in the community by ensuring the voices of our senior population are heard. Read the Seniors Advisory Committee Terms of Reference.

General duties include:

  • To liaise with Representatives of the Town of Conception Bay South regarding civic matters of interest to Seniors living within the boundaries of the Town;
  • Provide advice and perspective to the Town on its policies, services and programs that pertain to seniors;
  • Identify gaps and barriers and suggest solutions to the participation of seniors in all aspects of Town programming;
  • To promote and advocate, wherever appropriate, the concept of healthy aging for seniors
  • To work cooperatively with external agencies whose activities affect seniors living within the Town.

Those who are selected to serve on the Seniors Advisory Committee will be notified by e-mail or phone.  Form submissions will be kept on file for up to two years and reviewed to find replacements if vacancies open.     Taxes

    As a senior living in Conception Bay South, you may be entitled to the Seniors Property Tax Reduction, the Seniors Property Tax Incentive, or the Low Income Property Tax Reduction. To apply for these programs, you can complete the forms below and submit to the Department of Finance at the Town Hall, or email completed forms to [email protected]. Paper forms are also available at the Conception Bay South Town Hall.

    A Seniors Incentive, as outlined in the annual Schedule of Rates and Fees, is available to senior citizens who meet the following criteria:

    • All prior year’s taxes must be paid to qualify;
    • The individual is 65 years or older in the current year (January 1 to December 31);
    • The individual is the registered owner and occupies the property as their principal place of residence year round;
    • All taxes are paid on or before the due date or arrangements have been made under the Equal Payment Program.
    • Residents who meet these criteria must request the Seniors Incentive.
    • At the initial request, residents who meet these criteria must present proof of age. Proof of age will not be required after the initial request.
    • If any information changes regarding the resident’s primary residence, the resident must inform the Town.
    • Retroactive incentives will not be considered.
    • This incentive cannot be combined with the Senior Citizen’s Property Tax Reduction or the Low Income Reduction.

    Garbage & Recycling

    The Town of Conception Bay South strives to provide effective and efficient waste collection programs for residents, while keeping workers safe.

    The Town also offers bulk waste services to its residents, including both a pick-up and drop-off service. This service is free for seniors over 65. Learn more

    Our Department of Recreation and Leisure Services offers a variety of events throughout the year for seniors. Look for the annual seniors events, as well as all town events, in our events calendar or visit Programs and Activities for a full listing of current offerings.

    Seniors Bus Outings

    Let us do the driving as we travel to local sites and activities. These socials take place between May to October each year. Please visit our event calendar to stay up-to-date. 

    Walking for Wellness

    Explore the beautiful paths and trails of Conception Bay South with this guided walking program. This is a free program for older adults. There’s a winter set (which includes snowshoeing) spring set and fall set. Learn more.

    Swimming at the Recreation Complex

    Our pool facility offers many opportunities for seniors including Shallow Water Fitness, Seniors Swims, Adult Leisure Swims, a hot tub and sauna facility. View the pool schedule.

    Conception Bay South Arena Walking Track

    The walking track at the Conception Bay South Arena is offered to the public free of charge. The track is open to the public during regular operation hours, unless there is a paid ticketed and/or private rental event occurring.

We provide personal care assistance, medication administration, certified cook preparing all meals, physician on staff, registered nurse on staff, recreation program and more.
