How will you be notified?

You will receive notifications through the following methods. You choose how you would like to be notified when you sign up.

• mobile phone 
• text message (standard rates may apply)
• e-mail 
• home phone
• work phone

Unless there is a major safety alert, Resident Alert will be used between the hours of 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. as required.

How do the notifications work?

When you sign up, you indicate your first, second and third choice of how you wish to receive alerts. For instance, text may be your first choice, mobile phone your second choice, home phone your third choice, etc. The system will try your first choice. If you get this message, you will be prompted to confirm you received this alert. When you confirm alert was received, the system will stop and will not proceed to your second or other choices for contact.

If you do not confirm alert was received, the system will proceed to your second choice for contact. If you confirm you received this alert, the system will stop and will not proceed to your third choice for contact. If you do not confirm you received this alert, the system will proceed to your third choice, and will continue until you have confirmed alert was received or all methods of contact you have signed up for are completed.

What if my neighbourhood is not affected?

Because Resident Alert uses a GIS-based system (Geographic Information System), in certain instances, only the streets affected by an incident will be notified. Resident Alert is not intended to replace information posted to the Town of Conception Bay South website or provided through the Town’s other communication outlets.  Residents are advised to visit the Town’s website regularly for announcements, upcoming events, services and programs, to like our Facebook page and follow @TownofCBS on Twitter.

Signing Up

Complete your profile
After creating your user name and password, you’ll be brought to a page where you can complete your profile. This is where you enter your personal information, including First Name, Last Name and Registration Email. Next, you will select how you want to receive alerts. Options may include SMS text messages, (standard rates may apply) email, mobile phones, or landlines. The order you set these contact paths will be the order we will try and reach you in the event of an emergency.

You can register as a resident or business
Use your company name for first and last name if registering a business.

Enter any locations you care about
We send alerts based on a geographical location on a map. Insert up to five addresses for which you want to receive an alert if the location is affected by an incident or upcoming event. For instance, you may wish to receive alerts about your parents’ home, school or workplace in Conception Bay South, etc.

Important
If the address you provided is not in our database of known addresses for our jurisdiction, you will be presented with other options to add your address into this system, including: selection from a list of suggested addresses, or dropping a pin to select your location on the map (Microsoft Silverlight plug-in is required). You will not receive any location-based alerts if you do not provide a complete address.

Once you have finished and saved your account, you have successfully signed up.
