Raising Awareness of Gender-Based Violence with Flag Raising

Today marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. To honour victims and raise awareness, the Town of Conception Bay South is now flying a Purple Ribbon Flag on Peacekeepers Way.

This morning, Mayor Darrin Bent was joined by members of Council and Violence Prevention Avalon East, along with CBS residents, Philip and Debbie Hibbs, for a flag presentation in Council Chambers. The Hibbs family are parents of Juliane Hibbs, whose life was tragically taken by her ex-partner eight years ago. Juliane’s fiancé, Vince Dillon, also had his life taken that day.

Annually, the Town of Conception Bay South supports the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence, an international campaign from November 25 to December 10, and lights the Purple Ribbon Tree outside of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Conception Bay South detachment.
