Today marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. To honour victims and raise awareness, the Town of Conception Bay South is flying the Purple Ribbon Flag on Peacekeepers Way.
This morning, Mayor Darrin Bent and Councillor Rex Hiller joined CBS residents Philip and Debbie Hibbs at Peacekeepers Way for a flag-raising ceremony. The Hibbs Family tragically lost their daughter, Juliane, and her fiancé, Vince Dillon, to intimate partner violence in 2013.
Annually, the Town of Conception Bay South supports the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence, an international campaign running from November 25 to December 10. As part of this initiative, the Town also lights the Purple Ribbon Tree outside the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Conception Bay South detachment to reaffirm its commitment to ending violence.
