Reaction to 2017 Provincial Budget

April 7, 2017
The Town of Conception Bay South is pleased that there are no additional fees or increases for the municipality included in the Provincial Government’s 2017 Budget.

"The reduction in the gas tax will result in savings for the Town of Conception Bay South, and the continuation of the HST rebate program is welcome news for all municipalities,” says Mayor Steve Tessier. "While the Province is still faced with huge financial challenges, it was good to see there were no tax increases for the Town, as well as our residents.”
The restoration of the operating grant for libraries is another positive development for municipalities, says Mayor Tessier.
The Town looks forward to continued infrastructure improvements through cost-shared funding arrangements as part of the Multi-Year Capital

Works and Municipal Capital Works programs, and is utilizing funding through the Clean Waste Water Fund to improve water and sewer services for residents in 2017. However, Mayor Tessier said Council would like to see improvements to Route 60 (Conception Bay Highway) included in the funding announced as part of the Provincial Roads Program.
