Snow Safety

The Town of Conception Bay South is urging parents and caregivers to talk to their children about the potential dangers associated with making tunnels in snow banks.

Tunneling too far into a snow bank is dangerous due to the potential of snow collapsing on a child and possible suffocation.

Playing in tunnels or snow banks close to roadways is also extremely dangerous as a vehicle could lose control and crash into a snow bank. There is also an increased risk for children as snowplow operators cannot always see a child playing inside a tunnel at the end of a driveway or in cul-de-sacs.

For safe snow fun, children should build snow forts well away from the road, without a ceiling and should do with a friend so one person can go for help if needed.
