Due to Covid-19 guidelines, the Town of Conception Bay South has formally cancelled its popular, ten-day summer festival, the Kelligrews Soiree. Other large summer events are cancelled as well, including Pirate Day on Topsail Beach, Canada Day Celebrations, and Family Day at the Still.
“Covid-19 restrictions have already cancelled many major festivals and events across Newfoundland and Labrador, and we are continuing to follow all directives set forth by the provincial government. No doubt, summer for our residents is going to look a lot different this year. To continue to keep our residents connected and engaged, the Town has put a large focus on offering virtual programs. This will continue to be a focus throughout the summer months. We’re already looking at creative ways to host our popular summer events online this year so that we can continue to celebrate together,” said Mayor French.
Mayor French also noted that ‘stay-cationing’ will be a prevalent force within the tourism industry this summer.
“We are encouraging residents to support local businesses wherever possible, and enjoy our natural assets, such as our beautiful hiking trails and scenic drives along our coastline. There is so much to explore right here in our own backyard.” said Mayor French.
Residents must continue to comply with all government directives, such as quarantines, self-isolation, and social distancing. As with all Covid-19 related decisions, the Town continues to monitor the situation and accepts guidance from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador on safety measures and decisions.
