Grand Opening of CBS Public Library & Dedication of Clarence J. Morgan Building

The official grand opening of the Conception Bay South Public Library was held today. At the event, the Town officially named the building that houses the library as the Clarence J. Morgan Building. Mayor Darrin Bent, the Honourable Dr. John Haggie, along with officials from the Library Boards cut the ribbon to celebrate the new, 8,000-square-foot building, located at 10 Remembrance Square.

As part of the opening ceremony, the building was dedicated to long-time Conception Bay South businessman, Clarence J. Morgan.  On hand to help celebrate the dedication were more than fifty members of Mr. Morgan’s family.

The new library includes a reading hall, multi-purpose rooms, a children’s programming space, a maker space, a tablet loaning station, and an outdoor reading garden that is set to open this summer. The maker space includes technology for innovators, including a 3D printer, hydroponic gardens, and sewing machines. Programming includes author talks, book clubs, children’s story times, musical performances, instructional classes, and science education programs.

The Town of Conception Bay South is very thankful to all partners involved in this project: The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Provincial Information and Library Resources Board, NL Public Libraries, the Conception Bay South Library Board, and the family of the late Clarence J. Morgan.

Quotes

“We are very proud to add this state-of-the-art library resource center to our town for the benefit of all residents.  The resources and technology offered here at no charge have already provided our youth with new ways to explore their imagination and are an accessible venue for our seniors to avail of new technologies, learn new skills, or simply have access to books and videos.  Since opening its doors, our local library has registered 1,315 new members, a true testament to its value. I am grateful to our government and community partners who have helped us enhance the quality of life of our residents.

The Provincial Government is pleased to provide $230,000 annually to the library so it can provide the best services and make this a space for everyone in the community. Congratulations to all those who helped make the new Conception Bay South public library a reality.”
