First Fire Service in Atlantic Canada to Partner with Wounded Warriors Canada

The Town of Conception Bay South (CBS) is proud to announce an exciting new partnership agreement with Wounded Warriors Canada. Moving forward, the Town and Wounded Warriors Canada will work directly in order to add an additional layer of mental health program support for members of the CBS Fire Department and their families.

CBS Fire Department also announced today that it is joining the Wounded Warriors Canada Slip On Your RED (Remember Everyone Deployed) epaulette campaign. This November, CBS firefighters will wear red epaulettes to raise both awareness for our Canadian Armed Forces members deployed overseas and funds to support the provision of WWC mental health programs for veterans, first responders and their families.

“We understand how valuable it is to have strong support systems in place for our first responders and their families. We are proud to be signing this partnership agreement today; it enhances our commitment to the well-being of our members and recognizes the important mental health services provided by Wounded Warriors Canada,” said Mayor Terry French.

“This is our first fire service partnership in Atlantic Canada. We commend the Town of Conception Bay South for stepping forward and recognizing that no one service, association, government agency, or organization will ever be the 100 per cent solution for all of their members in need of mental health support. When a member is struggling, it doesn’t matter where, when or how the injury occurred. What matters is that our first responders and their family members know that we are in this together – working to ensure they receive the help they so rightly deserve,” said Scott Maxwell, Executive Director of Wounded Warriors Canada

“The Town of Conception Bay South and Conception Bay South Fire Department have been very proactive in championing mental heath initiatives for the benefit of all employees. Our ever shifting environment within the fire service is seeing a change in the way we help our members by finding new and relevant methods to deal with the struggles firefighters face on a daily basis. This partnership will provide an additional layer of support to not only our serving officers and firefighters, but also our retired members and their families,”  John Heffernan, Conception Bay South Fire Chief.

The Conception Bay South Fire Department is municipal fire service for the Town of Conception Bay South. The composite fire department is committed to public safety and has Officers and Firefighters on duty 24/7 in two stations. Members are supported by a team of Volunteer Firefighters, as and when required.
