Heritage Grants
Annually, the Town of Conception Bay South allocates funding under its Heritage Grant Program towards preserving municipally designated heritage properties. For a full list of these properties, please visit Heritage.
Purpose
The Heritage Grant program allocates funding toward preserving municipally designated heritage properties in the Town of Conception Bay South. The program may provide funding up to a maximum of $5,000 toward the cost of preservation measures and restoration of exterior features only. Through this program, the Town aims to preserve culturally significant heritage properties and structures in the community.
Who is eligible?
Owners/guardians of residential structures and other designated heritage structures or properties in the town. The grant program is for properties only, not persons, groups, or events. The applicant must be in good standing with the Town and not owe any outstanding taxes.
Eligible work may include:
- Preservation measures and/or restoration of exterior features only
- Labour for the approved work
- Shingle replacement
- Repair or replacement of exterior doors and windows
- Repair to architectural features and clapboard
Financial Assistance
Successful applicants will receive payment upon completion of the work and the submission of all eligible receipts. The maximum amount that may be allocated as a grant will be influenced by the number of proposals received, and the type and cost of work being proposed. Any approved grant will be awarded at the completion of the work, and receipts will be required.
Upon review and project approval, a Letter of Agreement will be issued detailing terms of conditions and the amount of funding approved. Payment of claims will be contingent upon the completion of proposed work and submission of copies of all invoices and cancelled cheques to the Department of Economic Development. Submissions can be sent to ecdev@conceptionbaysouth.ca.
All required permits must be obtained from the Town of Conception Bay South prior to the commencement of any work supported through the Heritage Grant Program. Proof of all applicable permits must be included with submitted claims.
Proposals must be received and reviewed by the Town before construction begins; grants will not be awarded to Heritage Grant projects that are under construction or completed. The Town reserves the right to inspect the property before and after the work.
