Canada Day in Conception Bay South

Canada Day in Conception Bay South

01/07/2021 | 12:00 am

Due to COVID-19, the Town of Conception Bay South will be engaging in virtual Canada Day celebrations, to ensure the safety of our residents while celebrating the country we now call Canada. This year, there are several virtual activities planned, and opportunities for our community to come together to appreciate and celebrate our nation. Please remember to adhere to all Public Health guidelines while participating in these activities.

We would like to encourage residents to take a moment of reflection on Canada Day, July 1, 2021, to listen, learn, and support Indigenous communities throughout Canada. Recognize the strength, and contributions of members of the Indigenous community. Take the opportunity to educate yourself on the histories of Indigenous peoples across Canada, and the long lasting effects felt by the residential school system on their cultures, and lives.

Resources, and educational materials can be found at the following links:

Government of Canada – Indigenous History
National Indigenous History Month
First Light St. John’s Friendship Center

Take a moment of reflection, understanding, education and support.

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 50 and the Town would like to advise residents that the Legion will be having a private Memorial Day Service at the Monument of Honour on Canada Day. This service will be live-streamed through the Town’s YouTube channel. While we would love to be able to recognize this day with everyone present, we would like for everyone to stay safe, and join us at home for this virtual ceremony.

Can you guess where the maple leaf is located around Conception Bay South? On July 1, look for a post on the Town’s social media platforms, which will include pictures of the maple leaf in all 6 different locations. Submit your answers on July 1, using the form below. Guess all 6 locations correctly to have your name entered to win a prize!

On July 1, 2021 at 7:00 pm, we are encouraging residents to step outside their homes, and join us in a town wide singing of our country’s national anthem, O Canada.

We are encouraging residents to show us what being Canadian means to them! This can be expressed through a drawing, painting, photograph, play, skit or story. Be creative, and submit your creations using the form below.  Please note that by sending along these photos, you are consenting to them being shared with the public.
