Council Schedules Special Meeting to Consider Ocean Choice Proposal

The Town of Conception Bay South will hold a special meeting of Council on June 29, 2021 to vote on the revised development proposal from Ocean Choice International for a cold storage facility for Long Pond Harbour. With uncertainty over jurisdictional boundaries clarified by the Department of Municipal and Provincial Affairs, Council now feels it is in a proper position to make a decision on the application.

“This is a major development for the Town of Conception Bay South.  Since Ocean Choice first made its application for development approval in July of 2020, Council has carefully listened to the concerns of area residents and called for the proponent to develop a plan to address these concerns.  As a result of ongoing discussions, OCI has moved their location significantly closer to the industrial side of the Port, striking a much more favorable balance between recreational and commercial/industrial users of the area,” said Deputy Mayor Richard Murphy.

“Following almost a full year of consultations and extensive deliberations by Council, we are pleased to now bring this application forward for consideration,” said Councillor Rex Hillier, Chair of the Planning and Development Committee. “The special meeting will focus exclusively on OCI’s proposal and will be available to the public through the Town’s YouTube channel.  We encourage everyone to tune in.”

Council will consider the revised application from OCI during a special Meeting of Council on June 29, 2021 at 7:00 p.m.
