Construction begins for a LAV III Monument

Construction begins for a LAV III Monument

The Town is preparing to install a LAV III Monument next to the Monument of Honour. The construction required for the placement of this Monument will begin on Monday, July 5, 2021.  During this time, there will be an increase in heavy equipment and machinery around the Monument of Honour, and the front entrance of the Town Hall. This may slightly impact traffic travelling to and from the Town Hall.  Anyone accessing the building should use the main entrance only (back of the building, facing the Recreation Complex) until further notice.

About the Project:

This Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV) III is part of the LAV III Monument Program that recognizes the service and sacrifice of the Canadian Armed Forces in Afghanistan by providing full-size, demilitarized, replica LAV III’s.  This monument is the last of 30 LAV III monuments to be dedicated in Canada, and the only one of its kind in Newfoundland and Labrador. This monument will serve as a fitting tribute to the many Veterans of the Afghanistan War from Conception Bay South, and the 158 Canadians who paid the ultimate sacrifice, many from Newfoundland and Labrador.

The addition of the LAV III Monument to the area adjacent to both the Town Hall and existing Monument of Honour will greatly enhance the area, with many unique landscape features, and lighting accents. Upon completion of all construction and site work, there will be a dedication of the LAV III Monument, in compliance with all Public Health COVID-19 restrictions.
