50 Flying Formations, Celebrating 50 years of Community

The Canadian Forces Snowbirds, Canada’s famous air demonstration team, are arriving in Conception Bay South this summer for the CBS50 Snowbirds Festival, which celebrates the Town of Conception Bay South’s fiftieth anniversary.

The Snowbirds will perform over Conception Bay on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. During the 30-50 minute show, which is choreographed to music, the Snowbirds will perform more than 50 different formations and maneuvers, including thrilling solo passes, graceful nine-plane formations, and exciting rolls and loops.

“We are excited to bring this performance to Conception Bay South as a way of celebrating our fiftieth anniversary. The nine aircrafts that will grace our skies are an incredible symbol of the nine communities that amalgamated to become the Town of Conception Bay South. With many great vantage points, including our 14-kilometer accessible T’Railway system, we are the perfect location for this milestone event. We welcome everyone to come visit and celebrate with us,” says Mayor Darrin Bent.

The first event of the day will be an autograph signing session at 10:00 a.m. at the Conception Bay South Arena, featuring a Kids Fun Zone. This will be an opportunity to meet the pilots in person before heading to the festival grounds, St. Edward’s School Field, at 2:00 p.m. The public will get to enjoy a static helicopter and military display, interactive activities, and food vendors, all before the pilots take flight.

This will be the second sighting of the Snowbirds in Conception Bay South. The Town also hosted the team in 2016 and notably won the Best Show of the Year Award. The title was awarded to the municipality by the Canadian Forces Snowbirds at the end of their tour.
