Have your say on how you would like your tax dollars spent

2019 budget consultation begins

The Town of Conception Bay South is planning for the 2019 budget process and is encouraging residents to provide their two cents by using an interactive, online budgeting tool.

“We want our residents to help shape the 2019 budget. It’s important for us to know what our residents’ priorities are. This new, online tool will provide us with feedback on how they would like to see their tax dollars spent,” says Mayor Terry French. “We want our community to be engaged in the decision-making process and we’re encouraging all residents to take a few short minutes and have their say.”

This year, the Town expanded on its public engagement budget process. In addition to the budget tool, the Town is also spearheading a telephone survey to gather valuable information from residents on their priorities for various civic services and programs.

“Council has received the results of the recent municipal assessments as conducted by the Municipal Assessment Agency.  While we are still analyzing the details, it appears the impact on revenues will not be as negative as we first anticipated.  However, it’s clear that projected revenues will not be enough to sustain the growth in expenditures we have seen over the last number of years, and some difficult decisions will have to be made as part of our budget process.  I encourage everyone to add their voice in helping Council identify priorities for this year’s budget,” says Mayor French.

The budget tool can be accessed on the Town’s website until Friday, October 19 by visiting here. The results will be collected over the next month and will inform Council on how residents feel about their tax dollar allocations.
