Summer Beautification Challenges

Business Challenge – Open to commercial businesses in Conception Bay South. The winner will be selected based upon creative decoration (outside), Cleanliness and landscaping.

Planter Challenge – Open to all residents of Conception Bay South. Any and all planters welcome. Please deliver your planter to the Town hall on Thursday August 26 at 11am for judging. The winning piece will be selected based upon creativity of the planter and the arrangement within.

Garden Challenge – Open to all residents of Conception Bay South. Please enter your garden in this contest if you think you have done an exceptional job in turf management, floral displays and of course tidiness.

Al entries are to be recorded with the Recreation Department prior to Friday August 27 by calling 834-6534 or emailing recreation@conceptionbaysouth.ca. Judging to take place on Monday and Tuesday August 30,31


Walk A Mile in His Shoes

Walk a Mile in His Shoes, co-founded by CBS Mayor Woodrow French, is a community walk with goals to raise money to support the fight against prostate cancer, and to raise public awareness around the prevention and early detection of the disease.

Date: Saturday, September 18th, 2010
Time: 1:30 pm - Registration at the Town Hall in Conception Bay South

The Walk will leave the Town Hall at 2:00 pm and proceed to the CBS Recreation Complex. Free refreshments will be provided following the walk along with prize draws and giveaways for the individual, community group, business and school who raises the highest amount in pledges. Pledge forms will be available at the Town Hall and the Conception Bay South Recreation Complex.

Terry Fox Run For Cancer Research

This year the Town will hold the Terry Fox Run on Sunday, September 19th (people are welcome to run or walk for the event). This run is a non-competitive event where people get together as individuals, families and groups to raise money for cancer research. Registration for the run will begin at 1:30pm at the Conception Bay South Recreation Complex. The run will start at approximately 2:00pm at the CBS Recreation Complex and proceed to the CBS Town Hall and then back to the Recreation Complex. There will be a bus provided to take those people who wish to start the run at a shorter location (Town Hall) after they have completed the registration. A bus will also be provided to transport participants from The Town Hall to the CBS Recreation Complex.

Volunteer Appreciation Night 2010 – Town of Conception Bay South

To Commemorate Volunteer Week, The Town of Conception Bay South recently paid tribute to hundreds of volunteers who give generously of their time to help make Conception Bay South a better place to live.
About 120 volunteers represented various groups at the volunteer appreciation event held last night as part of National Volunteer Week. The event was hosted by the Town of Conception Bay South and staff, with Mrs. Dara Taylor serving as Keynote speaker.
Deputy Mayor John Hicks brought greetings to the group on behalf of the Town of Conception Bay South. MHA for Topsail Mr. Paul Davis was in attendance to bring greetings on behalf of the Provincial Government.
Seven students were nominated for the Conception Bay South Youth Volunteer of the Year Award for 2009. Congratulations are extended to all Nominees and Jennifer Stockley who was recognized as the Youth Volunteer of The Year for her many accomplishments in a Volunteer Capacity for 2009.
